REMODELING IDEAS

Important.  Before you allow any contractor to perform any work on your property, verify that he has both liability and workers compensation insurance.  Don’t take his word for it, have his insurer send the certificates to you.  This way you can be confident that they are legitimate.

A few important ideas to remember: Every month check your smoke alarms.  Just push the test button and the horn should sound.  Also, if you have the older or newer type alarms that have batteries, change the batteries every 6 months.

Check all GFCI receptacles and/or breakers in your home.  Again, just push the labeled test button on the device, it should trip off.  Have a simple electric appliance to verify.

One other thing even though it is very simple, most people forget.  Change your furnace air filter monthly, unless it is the higher grade, which usually should be replaced every three months.

If you are having your home remodeled, here are some things your contractor should do.  Separate the construction area from the rest of the home with plastic, close off any return air ducts in the work areas, change furnace air filters regularly during the process, put protective runners down to protect finished floor walkways and have a dumpster or other method present to collect all debris.
